My father was in the U.S. military and
my mother is a citizen of France. I spent my childhood as the proverbial
"army brat". This means that I moved A LOT! I was born in France and
lived there for the first two years of my life. Then I was moved all
around the U.S. until I was 8 or 9. We moved to Germany and stayed there
until I graduated from Baumholder American High School. The high school
was very liberal arts oriented so it only required one science class to graduate. As a child growing up I always had a fascination with
science and especially science "toys". I always wanted Chemistry sets or
biology equipment for birthday and X-mas presents.
I didn’t go to college immediately after high school.
After deciding to attend college, I began as marketing major. A teacher noticed that I didn’t
have much enthusiasm for my chosen field of study and recommended that I
take a "DISCOVER" test. This was an 8-hour test to determine what kinds
of employment my interests and lifestyle could be compatible with. The
top twenty fields were all related to science. I wasn’t very shocked at
that. What did shock me was that I had an aptitude for learning science.
It was my highest score on the aptitude test that I took after the
DISCOVER test. I took a Physics class to see if I would like it, and
that’s when I fell in "love" with science. I’ve been hooked ever since.
Because of my sparse background in science, I had to learn everything
from the beginning including math. It was very difficult, but I never
gave up.
I graduated with a Master’s of Science
degree in Physics and Astronomy from Wayne State University. Currently,
I am working on a second Master’s of Science degree in Electrical and
Computer Engineering. I would have completed it several years ago,
but I decided to take a break to give birth to my very wonderful three
year old daughter Nicolette. It’s important to me to be a stay at home mom. On-line courses
allow me the opportunity to stay at home, and to teach
simultaneously. I just don’t sleep much.
I have been teaching for 10 years. Schools I
have taught at include Wayne State University, Oakland Community
College, Roeper School, and of course Macomb Community College.
