and apply them to a problem by:

          · Analyzing and developing a solution to the problem.

Assignment

You have been given the responsibility to develop a report, to be given to the designers and the construction crew, which will direct the construction of a new home. The report will contain suggestions for the main systems or components of the home, which are based on the concepts developed in this course. I have included some ideas to point you in the right direction, but you should not take this to be an all-inclusive list.

Measurement - how to make measurements and why to do it that way
Experimental Models - how to decide which materials are best
Structure Of Matter - characteristics of all the materials in the house
Heat - heating and cooling systems, carpeting, insulation, etc.
Sound - active areas vs. quiet areas, stereo set-up
         Light - placement of windows
Color - use of lighting and wall paints
Magnetism - hold doors closed, motors, computers, recording tape
Electricity - watts, volts, amps and your home wiring
Motion - household traffic patterns, airflow
Energy - natural gas, electricity, hot water, food, waste disposal

I would suggest that your report have a cover sheet, table of contents, and one section for each topic, of the course. Each section should identify the main concepts of a topic and determine how they would apply to the construction of your home. (Please note that all concepts will not apply - but most will.) Your discussion should reference the text, your laboratory work, and your personal experiences. You may want to illicit ideas from your collogues by submitting a note to the Discussion Board. The last section of your Topic Report, " Summary and Final Thoughts", draws together your thoughts, based upon the work of this topic, feelings, about the content of the topic, and how this topic relates to your life. Also, post this section of your report to the Discussion Board. Enough already, I don't want to spoil your fun.

Grading Checklist:

1. Cover Sheet
2. One section for each topic
3. Concepts identified for each topic
4. Concepts applied to construction of the new house
5. Demonstration of skills developed in course (pictures, drawings, graphs, charts)
6. Summary and Final Thoughts
